Converting your classic pride and joy to an electric car with batteries is not a new idea. There are several companies in Australia that can convert your classic Land Rover, Beetle, Combi or MG B to an electric car.

Ditching the internal combustion engine, gearbox, fuel tank and adding an electric motor, batteries and a controller generally results in better performance, less servicing and cheaper to run miles well into the future.

As early as 1902 there were electric cars. In1959 the Henney Motor Company modified the Renault Dauphine to produce the Henney Kilowatt. In 2008, Tesla modified a Lotus Elise and launched its groundbreaking Roadster. In 2009, Mitsubishi modified the “i” to produce the i-MiEV, the first all-electric car to sell more than 10,000 units.
