Welcome to 2030Yea Community Energy.
2030Yea Community Energy is a community group dedicated to greater resilience in the face of Climate Change and independence in Yea’s power generation.
2030Yea Community Energy’s ambition is for Yea to be using 100% renewable energy to meet its power requirements by 2030. We aim to achieve this by:
- increasing solar PV and battery uptake in Yea and surrounding areas
- encouraging energy efficiency, and
- planning for community energy.
The good news is the renewables world is expanding and organisations like our own 2030Yea are springing up around the country, all contributing to the challenge ahead of transforming the way we generate power and reducing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

A renewable future for Yea – report
2030Yea Community Energy, together with the Yea Wetland Discovery Centre Inc held an information evening for Yea residents - 'A renewable future for Yea'. Our two speakers, Dr Lasantha Meegahapola and William Ertler, gave simple and engaging explanations of three very technical apsects of a renewable future: microgrids, battery storage and load-shifting.
Do you know what a solar soak is?
If we could shift demand for electrical power to align with solar power production, this would allow more solar to be used ... and demand less from the grid. This is often referred to as solar soak or load-shifting.
Neighbourhood battery project update
Last year, 2030Yea established a partnership with Indigo Power and RMIT School of Engineering to develop a business plan for a neighbourhood battery in Yea.
