The Victorian State government recently listed the successful submissions for funding for a neighbourhood battery initiative – and Yea was on the list!

A consortium consisting of 2030Yea, Indigo Power (the lead organisation), RMIT University and Murrindindi Shire Council, have received federal funding to run a business case for a neighbourhood battery in Yea. See our the blog post ‘The $42 million neighbourhood battery initiative pie

If you aren’t quite sure what a neighbourhood battery is and how it works, check out Yarra Energy Foundation’s information about neighbourhood batteries here. It’s easy to read and there’s even a quiz.

The four partners have started working on the business case, which when complete, will inform us about the viability of a battery for Yea.

It is important that the community supports the battery initiative, as without your support there is no case for a battery. A battery needs participants to feed power into it and to use the power later, and it needs an operator.

We will keep you informed about how you can support and benefit from the community battery initiative.
